Angel City Culture Quest

Angel City Culture Quest, Welcome Episode

Episode Summary

Welcome to Angel City Culture Quest. Please allow me to introduce myself to you,

Episode Notes

As an arts journalist primarily, I connect communities to cultural events in their neighborhoods. Being a journalist requires a broad view and within that context, I have also written about subjects ranging from the environment and social justice to politics.

We who are nourished by the arts need to take ourselves on regular culture quests. Each time I do, it grounds me and it opens my mind. AGCC is my way to bring this joy to you.

However we experience it, art conceives what is possible within each of us and for the planet. In addition, issues surrounding social justice and the environment will inform many of our discussions.

Combining all of this together, alongside the arts, comes naturally to me.

This show is for consumers of art in all of its forms.

Episode Transcription

My name is Melina Paris, journalist, art lover and activist. As an arts journalist primarily, I connect communities to cultural events in their neighborhoods. I’ve interviewed artists and musicians throughout Los Angeles - with a focus on the thriving Harbor area scene encompassing the port towns of San Pedro and Long Beach. Being a journalist requires a broad view and within that context, I have also written about subjects ranging from the environment and social justice to politics.

Doing this work was a wonderful accident .…. After a divorce and as a single parent working part time, and looking for more work, an opportunity arrived with a local publication.

Soon, it evolved into writing. I fell in love and knew I could commit to this craft. After landing a newspaper position,  I returned to school — in journalism and flourished, writing about arts and music.

We who are nourished by the arts need to take ourselves on regular culture quests. Each time I do, it grounds me and it opens my mind. AGCC is my way to bring this joy to you.

In interviewing artists and musicians who have risen in the City of Angels, our discussions often draw out the hidden qualities and characteristics within them. It's a sort of intuitive eye from which to see and understand the artist's work and process.

However we experience it, art conceives what is possible within each of us and for the planet. In addition, issues surrounding social justice and the environment will inform many of our discussions.

Combining all of this together, alongside the arts, comes naturally to me.

This show is for consumers of art in all of its forms. LA is a major art hub that intersects with environmental and social justice ideals. Living here demands consideration of these factors.

AGCC meets you at this crossroads to hear directly from artists and activists in discussion of their work, in service to this one living world that we exist in, together.

So, if art feeds a part of you, if you crave an inspired life, let Angel City Culture Quest take you on this journey.

We will be an interview based show, coming to you once every month.
