Born in Philadelphia, Peggy Reavey was a student at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. A figurative painter whose work varies in terms of scale and materials, Reavey is a narrative artist, and her work often revolves around the quiet storms of domestic life. Exploring fundamental dramas of life – fear, truth, love, the body – Reavey’s work explores a symbolic connection between the spiritual and physical worlds. It is confessional, and often portrays private things not meant to be seen. A flamboyant colorist, Reavey has a freewheeling approach to composition that lends her work a potent graphic quality: she plays with perspective in her pictures, which often incorporate patterning and text.
"I've always been looking to be able to convey that feeling I had as a kid that there's just more to being a girl than people are saying," -- Peggy Reavey.
In September 2025, Peggy participated in AGCC’s Call Freedom: Artists Speak, a group exhibition exploring the theme of freedom at Range Projects Gallery in Los Angeles.
Now, Peggy has an upcoming, one woman show titled: “GYRLE: paintings by Peggy Reavey” at solo. Gallery in San Pedro, which will open in late December, 2025.
